Quite Simply a Fantastic SS9 for CCW
I’ll be very clear – if you are on the fence for a shield, get off your bum and purchase it! I have had both non-PC models (with and without the safety) and currently carry the non-thumb safety model. It is a fantastic and reliable carry piece with a strong aftermarket for everything from sights, internals, triggers, mag extensions, frame grips, etc. Smith and Wesson has also made availability of OEM parts like RSA’s and additional magazines everywhere so not only will you have a hard time finding something you need, you will likely find it at a low cost. It sports a slim profile with just enough height on the frame to get a nice 3-finger purchase for medium sized hands. S&W got it right on the money with the ergo’s and it is a very accurate shooter. I only have two gripes: #1 – Out of the box you get the S&W ‘hinged’ trigger, but swapping out the trigger shoe is an easy process so I didn’t mind. #2 – You don’t get the nice Blue S&W lockable case available with other S&W’s, just a black cardboard box. For a single stack 9, you will be hard pressed to find a better overall value for handgun out of the box.

Excellent sidearm for concealed carry
S & W has done an excellent job in a feature packed, striker fired, 9 x 19mm sidearm. The dual recoil spring arrangement does a decent job in controlling recoil. The gun is less “snappy” than I expected. Good accuracy right out of the box. The sights are very good and target acquisition is fast and repeatable. Breakdown to clean and inspect is easy and does not require tools. I use the 8 round magazine since I found my hand is too large to entertain the shorter 7 round magazine. This is a personal nit as my wife can use the 7 round magazine with zero issue. She’s thinking about kidnapping my unit so I may have to get another. I’ve fired about 400 rounds of various mfg (PMC, CCI, IMI, WWB, Speer, Hornady, Federal) and the unit at all without issue. The rebate of Hornady critical defense ammunition and a couple of magazines is a nice adder to the decision mix. Overall very pleased with GB and their service, and happy with this nice running pistol. S & W has a winner here.

Update
Have had the M&P 9mm Shield since last September. Still LOVE the weapon. Unit eats all ammo well, no FTF or FTEs after >1500 rounds. This is great as an EDC as it conceals well and holsters are available for IWB as well as OWB in many different flavors and price points. Very impressed.

Best Carry Gun
I’ve had my M&P Shield 9mm for about 4 years now. I’ve run thousands of round through it without a single failure. It feeds any ammo I’ve ever put in it. It’s my EDC, I carry it in a Blackhawk OWB holster, minimal footprint and comfortable. Fits really well in my hand for a compact gun. 10/10 would recommend
